How Much Does New Flooring Cost? A Straight Answer
By Todd Kinsey · 4 min read
Everyone wants a number before they call, and I get it. Here are honest ballpark ranges — and the things that move the price up or down.
Ballpark ranges
Laminate materials typically run about $2.29–$4.99 per square foot, with installation around $5–$8 per square foot.
Luxury vinyl installation typically runs $6–$10 per square foot, and premium luxury vinyl materials can go up to about $7.99 per square foot.
Carpet, hardwood, and tile vary a lot by style, so those are best priced once I've seen the space and you've picked a sample you like.
What changes the total
Removing and hauling away old flooring, fixing uneven subfloors, stairs, moving furniture, and transitions between rooms all affect the final price. The shape of the room matters too — lots of closets and angles mean more cuts and more waste.
