Best Window Shades for a Bedroom That Gets Morning Sun
By Todd Kinsey · 3 min read
Colorado sunrises are beautiful — just not at 5:45 a.m. through your bedroom window. If you've got an east-facing bedroom, here's what works.
Blackout cellular shades
Cellular (honeycomb) shades with a blackout liner are my go-to for bedrooms. They block light well and the honeycomb pockets also help insulate the window, which you'll appreciate in a Colorado winter.
Blackout roller shades
Roller shades give a clean, simple look and come in blackout fabrics. Mounting them inside or outside the window frame changes how much light sneaks around the edges — something I check when I measure.
Layering for the darkest room
For shift workers or light sleepers, pairing a blackout shade with drapery panels gets you the darkest room. I offer Hunter Douglas and also more budget-friendly shade brands, so there's an option for most budgets. I measure and install every window myself.
